Navigating Arizona’s oversize load regulations requires careful planning to ensure compliance with state laws. Whether you’re managing heavy equipment transport or machinery hauling services, understanding permit requirements, travel restrictions, and escort services is crucial for smooth operations.
Permit Requirements & Validity
Arizona oversize permits are valid for four days and can be purchased at most Ports of Entry. Accurate weight and dimension reporting is essential—Arizona scales enforce strict compliance, so permits must closely match actual measurements.
Operating Time & Travel Restrictions
Daylight travel only: (½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset) for most loads
Continuous travel: allowed for loads ≤10’ wide, ≤14’6” high, and ≤10’ rear overhang
Night/weekend travel: (3:00 AM–12:00 PM) on Interstates for loads ≤16’ wide, ≤16’ high, ≤120’ long, and ≤250,000 lbs (excluding holiday weekends)
Restricted zones: No oversize travel on I-17, I-10, or SR 60 in Phoenix or I-10/I-19 in Tucson during rush hours (7–9 AM & 4–6 PM)
