You should know what’s involved in a quote for a flatbed shipment.

Let me go through the different types of flatbeds and how we can determine what an overall rate for a shipment should cost.  This information should be used as a base line and not an actual rate.

Mileage is the factor in your total cost, however not all freight lanes cost the same. Cost also depends on freight volumes in and out of the area you choose.  Texas and Florida for example consumes more than it produces so there is more freight going into Florida and Texas then are coming out of Florida and Texas.  So, it costs more to ship a truck into Florida or Texas then out.  Most Brokers and Truckers use and online program like Power DAT as guide to assist with state to state rate costs that include fuel and tolls.

Average cost per mile, but keep in mind the more miles you have the better the rate is.

Flatbed $2.60 to $3.25

Stepdeck $2.65 $3.50

Double Drop $3.00 to $5.00 depending on weight

Specialized Heavy or Oversize multi axel RGN Removable Goose Neck Trailer starts at $3.00 and could carry all the way to $100 depending on weight and size.

Your agent should be able to explain these costs to you and if it seems too good to be true than it probably is. Never give a broker a deposit or payment until you are sure your freight is booked with the proper equipment and you can always check the broker or driver by asking for their MC number that can be verified on SAFERSYS
